There is no such thing as a bad meal here. This one of our favorite places to eat. The service is impeccable, the ambiance is perfect for date night dinning or dinning with friends. The appetizers and bread were superb. The main course never fails to satisfy and bring great enjoyment to the diner. The desserts are excellent and a great way to wrap up dinning experience. The view over the river and looking towards Columbia provides a pleasing backdrop for the whole experience. Bottom line is that this is one of my favorite places to enjoy a meal with family and friends.
Al’s Upstairs is by far one of my favorite restaurants in Downtown Columbia. Our host/hostess is always highly professional and courteous. And the food? The food is always amazing. Our favorites are the crab cakes appetizer followed by the Pasta Alla Al entrée. Try to request a window seat while making your reservation to take advantage of the Downtown Columbia city views.
We called for takeout when traveling through Columbia, SC. Glad we did! Great tasting Chicken Charleston with great Angle hair pasta with mushrooms & rosemary. Also had meatballs that were exceptional. Takeout is not their regular service, but they did a great job! Would definitely go back again if in the area!
Short version: Al's Upstairs will be one of your favs after the first meal there. The food is so flavorful, so meticulously prepared and presented. Quiet atmosphere, cozy rooms and bright, personable servers. The Chilean Sea Bass is fluffy and buttery delicious. Excellent crab cakes. Surprisingly moderate pricing for an upscale restaurant
